"Level 1 Demon lord and One Room hero" Anime review
What happens when the epic Hero's journey ends with a middle aged washed up hero who barely lives to his reputation let alone cares about it? We get a story about redemption, reclaiming your dreams and sometimes swallowing your pride to get the best outcome for everyone involved.
Taking inspiration from D&D, the main hero party of this show is comprised of the Hero, Barbarian (the tank), the Mage, and the priest and yes they serve different functions as the holy spells available to the priest is unusable to the mage and vice versa. Think of it like two alt long range characters with different cool down times and other attributes to keep in mind.
The story goes all kinds of places as the main cast are in their adult years so you hear about back pain, raising kids, tackling workplace hierarchies and the struggle of keeping up with old friends, even if that catching up is moreso because your old buddy suspects you're housing the under-powered demon lord in your closet.
Meanwhile said demon lord is planning to recruit you into their demon army by pointing out demon soldiers get better pay, maternity leave and PTO than the average human world C-suite executives. Give it a watch and if the character dynamics and jokes don't land with you then move on.
